Today, traditional religious leaders are silent on pressing issues as civil and political rights for all, poverty, the environment, immigration, gun safety, domestic terrorism, and support for democratic institutions. The ones who are addressing these issues are lay persons who are exhibiting the heroic virtue and self-sacrifice in their public lives on behalf of others that historically were characteristic of saints. Today new forms of the sacred or holiness are present in the public lives of secular saints. We just need the vision to see them and be inspired with hope. (Hosted by Open Circle).
