The beloved Toy Story franchise explores themes of growing up, friendship, loss, and letting go. The films resonate with adults and children alike, often aligning with rites of passage in our own lives. When Andy’s toys are passed to Bonnie in Toy Story 3, no doubt many parents were reminded of a time when they, too, needed to give away toys that no longer held the attention of their no-longer-small children. Talk about bittersweet! As Woody said, “I can’t stop Andy from growing up. But I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” Longtime member Claudia Moder (whose “favorite deputy” now lives on her own) will tie Toy Story themes to her own experience as an empty nester.
