Service Projects
The Green Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Fellowship participates in several ongoing community initiatives and collection efforts. Our past success includes constructing and selling popular rain barrels out of repurposed plastic containers.
Urban Food Forest
In late spring of 2023 we planted an urban food forest, native plants and raised-bed vegetable gardens on our property. The goal is to make the land work for the planet and provide food for the community with the intended audience of neighborhood residents and local food pantries. See story.
Adopt-A-Block Program
In late summer of 2023, GBAUUF joined the Olde Main Street Adopt-A-Block program to help keep our section of Main Street beautiful and litter free.
Fair Trade Products
Globally, we support the mission of Equal Exchange which aims to build long-term trade partnerships that are economically just and environmentally sound, to foster mutually beneficial relationships between farmers and consumers and to demonstrate, through our success, the contribution of worker co-operatives and Fair Trade to a more equitable, democratic and sustainable world. Equal Exchange coffee and other treats are available for sale at our self-serve display.
Golden House
The Golden House offers a wide array of services and shelter for victims of domestic violence. They are always in need of donations of non-perishable food items, toddler and infant diapers, cleaning supplies, personal care products, etc. Tax-deductible checks made out to Golden House always work well, too. You may leave your donations in the bin in the back hall coat closet. Donations are delivered to Golden House on the first Sunday of each month.
Dozen Egg Cartons for Paul’s Pantry
Paul’s Pantry receives donated eggs in bulk crates. Volunteers then re-pack the eggs into donated cartons for distribution to people who utilize the pantry. THEY ONLY ACCEPT DOZEN CARTONS; no half dozen or 18-count cartons. They can be Styrofoam, plastic, or paper-molded. You can leave your empty egg cartons on the table in the back coat closet.
Aluminum Cans
CAN you get into this collection effort? Don’t worry, more can-related puns are coming. In an effort to a) help the planet through recycling efforts and b) make a few bucks for GBAUUF, we’ve implemented an aluminum can collection. So, please bring your cans to an upcoming service and our CAN-do team will take care of the rest. Leave in the old ATM Bank Drive-Thru area, or the receptacle in the kitchen next to the fridge.
N.E.W. Community Shelter
The New Community Shelter was founded in 1994 to help the homeless and the hungry, and has evolved to become one of the most respected shelters in the State of Wisconsin and is respected by officials and residents of the City of Green Bay. The New Community Shelter is the only Emergency Shelter in Brown County open year round that serves homeless adult men and women. In addition to our Emergency Shelter Program, the New Community Shelter has provided a Transitional Living Program and a Community Meal Program.
In the past, GBAUUF has prepared several meals a year for guests at the shelter. We are currently in need of a coordinator to continue this important work.
